landed properties in Singapore

Singapore is tiny, and so most of us live in apartments. On my recent trip to the Netherlands, I looked out from my coach and thought to myself, “People here live in real houses”.

To put it into perspective, Singapore as a country, is smaller than New York City, less than half of London and, smaller in size and population than Tokyo.

You can travel across the length of Singapore east-to-west, on the train (MRT, we called it), in less than 1.5 hours.

Thus, land is precious here; the purchasing of landed properties in Singapore by foreigners is regulated.

Application is a requirement and approval is on a case-by-case basis.

Visit the webpage of the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) for more details and application.

Here is a list of landed residential real estate in Singapore for which approval must be sought to own or co-own by a foreigner (with or without PR status).

  • Shophouse (for residential use)
  • Bungalow/detached house
  • Semi-detached house
  • Terrace house
  • Vacant residential land
  • Sentosa Cove landed properties
  • STRATA landed house, not within an approved condominium development under the Planning Act

A tropical laid-back flair, island living which you can’t find anywhere on the main land of Singapore.

STRATA LANDED HOUSE

STRATA landed houses, also known as cluster houses, are landed houses in a gated community with shared facilities just like in a condominium -- swimming pools, gyms, barbeque pits, function rooms etc.
