Living Near
Changi Village
A lifestyle away from the masses
& soaking in rustic charm
1) Halton Road / Changi Village Road
Close to Changi Village are the estates along Halton Road and Changi Village Road, featuring unique black-and-white, one to two-storey houses that resemble nothing like the typical residences in Singapore.
Built in the late 1920s and 1930s, these residences used to house British officers during the colonial period. Due to their historical significance, ownership of these houses is not permitted, but they can be rented from the Singapore Land Authority.
Living here is really cool, but only if you’re someone who appreciates a rustic and back-to-nature environment.
2) Loyang Valley
This unique condo, with its striking red-brick design, catches the eye of anyone traveling along Loyang Avenue.
However, it is currently hidden from due to the construction of the Cross-Island MRT line, expected to continue until around 2028. The only access to the condo is via the back entrance for now.
Despite its age dating back to 1985, renting this condo wouldn’t be a concern for those who value its rustic charm and seek solitude away from the crowds, as mentioned earlier.
But as for buying, it's worth mentioning that the estate tried an en-bloc sale in 2022 which did not attract any bidders.
In Singapore, this indicates that 80% or more of the current owners are willing to sell their properties and, the entire development will be taken over if the en-bloc sale goes through.
So, it would be illogical for someone to purchase such a property for personal use, knowing that an en-bloc sale is imminent.
There are individuals who consider buying such properties in hopes of profiting from an en-bloc sale soon. However, as mentioned, there were no bidders in the previous attempt.
In addition, the current asking price for a 2-bedroom unit is over $1.4 million. Therefore, the anticipated windfall may not be as lucrative if the purchase price is high.
3) Loyang Villa
Constructed in the late 1990s, I found these colourful terrace houses resembling cute doll houses when I used to pass by them during my school days. The colors have since faded though.
The location of this estate is ideal for individuals working at the Changi Business Park, Changi Industrial Estate and Changi Airport.
As landed properties, they appeal to those who prioritize space and prefer an house over an apartment.
Moreover, it might surprise some to learn that landed property owners are starting to install charging points for electrical vehicles on their premises.
Bye to making trips to the petrol stations!
This is something I find most appealing about landed properties, especially as Singapore moves towards embracing EVs!
4) Flora Drive
I used to wonder why would anyone choose to reside in the Flora Drive estate, which is situated quite a distance away from the main road (refer to the map).
However, one evening, as I pedaled through the estate on my Brommie, I had an epiphany.
There was a serene and peaceful atmosphere, illuminated by the golden hues of the sunset.
As the residents returned home from work, I envisioned that it must feel like retreating from the hustle and bustle into a peaceful sanctuary.
There are several condominium developments in this estate, with the latest addition being the stunning Jovelle condo, which feels like a luxurious resort.
There will also be a new launch this year, called Kassia. It’s the last plot of freehold land in this estate, so do check it out if you are interested.
20Jun 2024
Ok, the prices for Kassia is out! It’s crazy!
NOWHERE in today’s market will you still hear of condo pricing starting from $800,000 (not even ECs) ! And mind you, this is a freehold property!
And no, it’s not some lousy development; it’s built by a tripartite of developers with some of the best, proven track record -- CDL + Hong Leong + TID.
Check out my post on Kassia for the indicative prices.
In the mean time, please book an appointment with me ( Whatsapp 8851 2643 ) for a viewing of Kassia’s show flat when it opens for preview from 6Jul 2024 (Sat) to around 16Jul 2024.
